My Winter Home Styling Tips & Tricks
my styling tips for the winter months
Winter can be such a tricky time to decorate our homes. The months of January & February can be so cold, long, and dark. Once the Christmas decor comes down our homes feel empty and bare. But, I am usually so ready to tear down Christmas January 1st. So how do we keep the coziness of Christmas into the new year? Here’s a few tips and tricks I use to make my home feel cozy & warm.
Probably the thing I miss the most about Christmas is the glow from all the cozy lights. Now is when I get out all my battery operated candles! I use a variety throughout my home. I keep them in my windows, my candles holders throughout the home, and any other space that feels natural. I even placed a few around my fireplace for a little extra glow. What I love most about these is that they come on by themselves every day, and turn off by themselves too. No worrying about forgetting to blow out a real candle. Do I still burn candles, yes of course. But you can’t go wrong with these.
Now is also the perfect time to bust out all the cozy textured throws and pillows. There is nothing better than curling up with a good book, and a nice cozy throw when it’s -20 outside. Which for Edmonton is quite normal. Also, layered throws and pillows make any space feel cozy and welcoming. Throw pillows are one of my favorite home decor accent pieces, and a good insert makes a huge difference too. These are my favorites, and I always recommend sizing up 2”. So if your pillow is 20x20, you need a 22x22 insert. I will share a few of my favorite throws, and pillows below.
As far as greenery, I usually use all my ivory, cream and brown florals during this time of year. They translate easily to both spring and winter. I kept a lot of my pinecone stems out and also the willow branches from my mantle. I love the organic wintery vibe they add. I also got out my faux magnolia branches. I forgot how beautiful they are, and how perfect they are for winter, but also spring too. I tried something new this year. I got an amaryllis bulb from a local nursery, and some paper white bulbs. You can force them to grow inside during the winter, and they have added such a happy touch to our home. I’ll share more on that soon.
I love winter, cause it is so cozy. Turning on the fireplace, curling up with a good book and enjoying a cup of cocoa. Doesn’t get much better than that. I hope my tips will help you create a nice warm and cozy home to enjoy through these cold winter months.
