Washington Living Room: Refresh & Styling Tips
Washington Living Room
This space has never really felt right, until now. I wanted a textured, layered, cozy vibe that felt welcoming and also like me at the same time. I think I have finally achieved just that. We added a new cozy sofa, that I will be sharing more of soon! You probably spotted it, but you’ll have to stay tuned for the full reveal. I also got two new swivel chairs that everyone in the house is obsessed with. They’re a bit larger than what we had, and the cozy texture on them is so beautiful and just adds more depth to the space, something that was lacking before.
Texture is my favorite way to make a space cozier but it also really makes a space feel polished and refined while also extremely welcoming. Ways you can add texture is of course with actual textiles, but there are many other ways too. Here are a few you can spot in my space—
Florals - florals are a great way to add texture and visual interest. The faux hydrangeas in my space add texture and a natural element, which I think every space needs. It helps bring it to life, pun intended.
Interesting furniture details - The beautiful fluting detail on my coffee table is another gorgeous example of texture. Combined with the sleek base, and top it is perfectly designed in my opinion. Primrose Lifestyle knocked it out of the park on this one. Also, the base of both my side tables are visually interesting and another textural element.
No texture - Is also a texture and is needed in every space. The eye needs a place to rest, so using things like linen that have virtually no texture from far away, gives the eye a break from the busier texture I mentioned above, and helps bring it all together. It’s also ok to leave walls bare and free of decor/molding. If everything had a busy texture, your eyes wouldn’t know where to look, and it would be very harsh looking. Balance here is key.
I wouldn’t say I am an expert in all things cozy yet, but that is always the vibe I try to achieve and texture is definitely key in achieving this. I hope some of the things I mentioned above can help you think outside the box, and help you create a cozy, and warm space for your family to enjoy.
